Rita received a BS degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology in 2009 and a Master’s degree in Evolution and Developmental Biology in 2011 from the Faculty of Science at Lisbon University in Portugal. In 2012, she joined Dr. Xavier’s laboratory at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC) to study quorum sensing manipulation of the gut microbiota and joined the IGC PhD program in 2015 in Interspecies interactions in recovery from microbiota dysbiosis, which was completed in 2020. In 2021, Rita joined Dr. Pamer’s laboratory at the University of Chicago to study bacterial consortia assembly for gut therapeutics.
